This is a step by step guide on how I paint my fieldstone bricks for the cottages. The process is simple but I like the end result
that provides a lot of layers in the colours.
1. Base colours
I apply 2 base colours, a very dark grey with a slight blue tint, and a very dark brown or a burnt umber
The dark grey is made with black, white and blue (blue ink actually, the stuff for ink pens, I happened to have a bottle,
so used it). And it is well diluted so it goes in all the cracks very well. The idea being the blue is to have the "slate"
colour, they look almost black or very dark greay at first, but then you notice the blue in them... it's more lifelike and
less monochromatic.
The brown is "Burnt Umber" or plain simple dark brown I get from a discount store for 99p for 125ml, It is applied
randomly to individual bricks (I do not bother with the inside), and I am not too bothered is I do not over the whole
stone or even if I go over one next to it.
